Sent Card #42

Els in Zwolle, Netherlands likes birthday cards in October – and my card will arrive just around her birthday! I made a card for her and decorated it with glitter glue. I also included a postcard, and since she collects stamps, I included some new / used stamps and used some cool looking ones on the envelope.

Stamps I used on the envelope.

UPDATE October 4, 2012: Hurray! My card reached its destination in 9 days after traveling 6,406 km! “Thank you very much for the beautiful Birthday card and the many beautiful stamps. The Virginia card is great!!! I received an envelope full of Birthday presents. Thanks! It was a very nice surprise. I’ll send you some stamps from the Netherlands in return. Best wishes and many greetings from the Netherlands.” That’s such a great thank you! 🙂 And yay! she’s sending me stamps! 🙂 I wasn’t expecting anything in return, but I’m excited anyway. 🙂

Received Card #29

Favorite cheese: Appenzeller

WOW! Great stamps, cards & letter from Matthias in Lüneburg, Germany! He wrote that Lüneburg has the highest density of pubs, bars, restaurants, clubs and cafes in Germany. It’s also where most of the sheep and horses in Germany live. He said there’s a saying where he lives: “Every man has a car in the garage, but behind at least 2 horses.” I really want to visit Lüneburg! It sounds like a cool place to visit. I mentioned it to one of my German friends and she says it’s a great place to visit!

Matthias really made my day so I am sending him these cards back. 🙂 His profile says he likes history and landscapes, so I’m including this great card of the USS Wisconsin which I saw in Norfolk, VA over the summer along with the Civil War stamps that the USPS issued recently.

Received Cards #27 & 28

Paulo from São Lourenço, Brazil sent me this great cheese card! It is Queijo de Minas (Minas cheese). The town where the cheese is made is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

What a cute card! I love the colors so much! Tjaaktje in the Netherlands sent me this and said she also studied abroad in high school – but she did it for an entire year! She went to Nebraska. I think that’s so cool. Plus I bet it gave her a much better sense of America than living somewhere like NYC or LA. The stamps are great! I have a lot of Dutch stamps and I’ve never seen any of these!

Received Card #25 & 26

Mikayla is 10 years old and lives in New York. She sent me this cute mapcard from Canada! Funny – the stamp wasn’t canceled and it took 12 days to get from NY to VA. Odd. She wrote that she “totally loves middle school.” 🙂 I wish Postcrossing had been around when I was in middle school – what a cool way to learn about other cultures, writing and geography!

Kate is a 20 year old student in Minsk, Belarus! She sent me these really cute cards and stamps. She also sent me a 100 ruble note! It was so surprising to find in the envelope! So neat. About 80 of them equals $1.

I was completely thrilled to received Kate’s thoughtful cards and ruble note (!) so I’m sending her these things below. 🙂 Her profile says she likes stickers, Disney and Winnie-the-Pooh… She also says she collects foreign objects such as bus tickets, movie tickets, etc. so I’m sending her a metrocard from NYC!

WOW! Marianne in the Netherlands sent me this super awesome handmade card! So cute. She wrote that people in her region are called “Cheeseheads”. Hahha I didn’t realize people besides us Wisconsinites are called Cheeseheads. ALSO, Marianne sent me a sheet of stamps! So nice of her. It really made my day! 🙂 They are called “Kinderpostzegels” and they are a little more expensive than regular stamps because some of the money goes to children who need special help.
