Sent Card #46 & 47

The Croft family lives in Dallas, Texas – one of my favorite cities! I was there last year with the circus and had an amazing time. I’m sending them this mapcard with some facts about VA.

UPDATE November 2, 2012: Hurray! My card reached its destination in 2 days after traveling 1,830 km! My card would have arrived in 1 day if the mailman had actually picked up my outgoing mail three days ago! Second time in 2 weeks. *grumble*

I’m sending yet another Virginia mapcard. 🙂 They seem to be very popular so I just bought 20 more. 🙂 Michael lives in Coesfeld, Germany and is a firefighter! I think that’s really amazing. One of the cool parts about Postcrossing is how many Germans participate. I studied German for 7 years and lived in Germany for 12 weeks. But for the past several years I haven’t had many people to practice my German with. I’m hoping this will improve my German and so far, everyone I’ve written seems to understand and even compliment me on my German! Yet another great thing about Postcrossing!

UPDATE November 6, 2012: Hurray! My card reached its destination in 6 days after traveling 6,497 km! Aw, Michael wanted to know how I learned such good German. That made me feel so good to read!

Received Card #44

Favorite cheese: Maasdam

Tania from the great city of St. Petersburg, Russia sent me this cool card today! The picture is from 1912 and shows the owners of the Pobeda Trading House in front of the Peter I monument. Tania sent me the card in an envelope so I can take these great stamps and add them to my stamp collection! Yay!

Swapped Cards #5 & 6

I just received this awesome Olympic card from Susannah in Caledon Village, Ontario, Canada! She contacted me after seeing my Virginia mapcard and wanted to know if I had another. She was in the Olympic Torch Relay in 2009 for the 2010 Vancouver Olympics! That is so cool!!!!!

I just received this card from Niki in Freeport, Bahamas! I LOVE THE STAMP!!! Niki wrote to me October 7 and asked if I could send her and her 2 kids a card – and write some fun facts on it. 🙂 I had a lot of fun looking up facts and learning a little about Virginia. I didn’t know that 25% of Virginians work for the US government and that the state flower is the dogwood blossom which isn’t actually a flower – it’s a tree!

SO COOL! Louis in China sent me my first irregular card on Postcrossing! He said it’s a view of Amoy – the city he’s from. He also included a wax seal of “Twilight” on the back.

Received Card #41 & 42

Jane from Moscow, Russia sent me this super great card! She said it’s a Soviet cartoon called “Vacation in Prostokvashino” which the cartoonists drew American style. Reminds me of “Tom & Jerry”. I started to watch “Vacation in Prostokvashino” and it looks cute so far. 🙂

WOW! Heidi from Trappenkamp, Germany sent me this ENORMOUS package of postcards and a mountain load of stamps on the envelope AND inside! I don’t even know what to say, except thank you!

Below are the cards I am sending to Heidi to say thanks. 🙂

UPDATE November 8, 2012: Heidi wrote to me and said she was very surprised to receive the cards and I made her day. 🙂

Sent Card #45

This card is going to Ronja in Bad Schwartau, Germany. She suggested writing some interesting facts about my city/country, so I wrote a bunch of facts about Virginia. Such as… the Dogwood Blossom is the State Flower except it’s not really a flower. And Virginia has the largest office building in the world (the Pentagon)!

UPDATE October 29, 2012: Hurray! My card reached its destination in 7 days after traveling 6,633 km! Ronja wrote me in German and said, “Many thanks for your card 🙂 ! I like it a lot, especially because it’s the 1st card I’ve received! PS You speak very good German 🙂 ! YAY! I’m pleased that I was able to send someone their 1st card and that they liked it. 🙂

Thank you card!

Aw, I had sent Els in the Netherlands a card in September and today I received a thank you letter! She’s so sweet! She also sent me a GIANT bunch of stamps! Some are mint and some are used, and I don’t have a single one in my collection yet!

Thank you card from Matthias!

Matthias from Germany is awesome! 🙂 He initially sent me 3 cards and some great stamps (along with a really nice, long letter), so I thanked him by sending him some cards. Then he thanked me for my thank you by sending the cards above. 🙂 Awesome. He said he just got back from a vacation in Switzerland and Liechtenstein and was happy to get my cards upon his arrival. He wrote some interesting facts on his cards and I think the most interesting one is that 25,000 people live in Liechtenstein but there are 50,000 registered companies! (Liechtenstein is a tax haven.) That’s incredible.
