I sent this card to Maaike in Kollum, Netherlands. Her profile said she likes birds, so I thought she’d like this card of Virginia’s State Bird, the Cardinal! 🙂 She also wrote on her profile that she was collecting stamps to make a collage to put in a frame, so I sent her a few. 🙂
HURRAY! My card reached its destination in 9 days after traveling 3,956 km! Maaike wrote, “Wow, you really made my day! The stamps are amazing! Just yesterday I was working on framing my stamps and I was disappointed that I was short of just a few. But now I can finish my little project 🙂 The cardinals are such beautiful birds. I have never seen one irl. […] Thanks again for the lovely mail. All the best, Maaike”
Silke from Velen, Germany, wrote on her profile that she likes postcards of animals, so I sent her this one I picked up from Chincoteague Island, Virginia. There are many wild horses that live there – I saw them this past summer and it was amazing to see them roaming around!
HURRAY! My card reached its destination in 10 days after traveling 4,022 km! Silke wrote, “Thank you so much for the beautiful postcard. Your postcard is adorable. I also like the stamp and the sticker you used. I appreciate that very much. I send you my best wishes. Have a nice day! Silke ;-)))
I sent this card to Annemarie in the Netherlands. I had sent her the card below but it expired. Turns out, she moved, so either the card was lost, or it was never forwarded to her.
HURRAY! My card reached its destination in 89 days after traveling 6,361 km! Annemarie wrote, “Hello! Thank you for your lovely postcard! Best wishes, Annemarie”
Geert from Kolham, Netherlands likes postcards with birds on them, so I sent him this one of the Virginia State Bird: the Cardinal. I see them almost every day! 🙂 They’re so pretty.
HURRAY! My card reached its destination in 5 days after traveling 6,408 km! Geert wrote, “Thank you for your beautiful birdcard. In Holland we don’t see this one, we see more often sparrows and blue tits. Happy Postcrossing!! Geert”
Favorite cheese: Feta
Elies lives in Veenendaal, Netherlands. I love the stamps! They’re great. 🙂 She likes feta cheese and recommended spanakopitakia which are little spinach and feta pies, and are fantastic. I’ve never made them, but I’d like to! They are really delicious. Elies said she gives Greek folk dance lessons. That sounds fun! 🙂
Favorite cheese: Zolf Allgäutaler
Anja from Germany sent me this beautiful and colorful card today! I love the colors!!!
Favorite cheeses: Old Amsterdam, Old Goat cheese, Gargonzola & Mozzarella
Diana from the Netherlands sent me this Eric Carle card (from the book The Very Hungry Caterpillar). I love Eric Carle! I had many of his books as a child, and my collection keeps growing. I happened to have been housesitting / catsitting in NYC in 2011, and Eric Carle was signing books and reading from his latest one at a Barnes & Noble, so of course I had to go. I wish I could have said more than “Hi” to him. 🙂 I wanted to say so many things about how amazing his art and books are, and how he inspired me to be a designer. But I was lost for words when I actually met him.
ALSO, Diana sent me the above mint stamp of Nyntje! It’s a stamp that’s sold yearly and proceeds are given to a children’s charity. It’s so cute, and I’m so delighted to add it to my collection! 😀
Here’s a picture I took of Eric Carle – wish I’d gotten one with him and me! You could tell how much he loves children, because when they spoke to him, his face lit up. What a cool man!
Favorite cheese: Renny loves cheese and mentioned Blue Castello (a new cheese to me! I’ve never heard of it! 🙂 )
When I opened my mailbox today, the first thing I saw were these beautiful circus stamps! I was so delighted! 🙂 She also added really cute circus-y stickers. 🙂 It’s amazing how some people can write so much, in so few sentences. Renny from the Netherlands sent me this magnificent card! I love Heineken. 🙂
She asked if I’ve ever watched “Carnivàle”. But nope, I’ve never seen it – or heard of it. I had to look it up – it was on HBO from 2003-5. I was so excited to hear of a new circus tv show! 🙂 I’m really excited to watch it! (I used to work for a circus, so I really enjoy anything circus related.)
She also asked if I’ve heard of “Buurman & Buurman”. I’d never heard of that either. It is a Czech animation called “Pat & Mat” in English. I watched an episode and it’s really funny. 🙂 I also realized someone from the Czech Republic sent me a card about a month ago and added a “Pat & Mat” stamp, and I couldn’t figure out what it was. Now I know! 🙂
Monique from Eijsden, Netherlands said her favorite postcards involve food, so I sent her this one I just picked up in Maryland. 🙂 I sent her the postcard in an envelope, and I included my 3 favorite recipes, one of which is for zucchini pie. I use THIS recipe, except I use egg whites, and a lot more garlic! 🙂 It’s fantastic. I also included a recipe for pumpkin soup, but I wasn’t sure how common pumpkin is in the Netherlands (so any squash will work too!). When I studied abroad in Europe, it was hard to find pumpkin.
HURRAY! My card reached its destination in 5 days after traveling 6,451 km! Monique wrote, “Zucchini is also my favorite. i’m very happy with this new recipe. In the Netherlands the pumpkin isn’t hard to find. I make often pumpkin soup. Corn is also my favorite. Thank you for the great postcard and the recipes. Best wishes,Monique” YAY! Pumpkin is native to North America, but I’m happy to see it’s found its’ way to other countries. It is delicious. 🙂
This card went to Anja in the Netherlands who likes to read. Her favorite writer is Stephen King, and I really love him too! I told her I have a close friend who’s from Maine (where Stephen King lives) and he’s the same age as King’s son. So my friend would see him when he was in high school at basketball games. 🙂
HURRAY! My card reached its destination in 4 days after traveling 6,348 km! Anja wrote, “Hi Maria, thank you so much for you postcard! I am very well thank you. I have summer holiday now, 6 weeks off so plenty time to read! It is very hot now in the Netherlands, we set warmth records!”
Favorite cheese: Sergei doesn’t have a favorite but he likes Herrgårdsost (a semi-hard Swedish cheese made from cow’s milk)
MY FIRST POSTCARD FROM SWEDEN!!!!! 🙂 Sergei in Lund, Sweden sent me this beautiful Art Nouveau card. It’s a poster for the Cloetta company that makes chocolate and other goodies. I just love the postmark but the woman’s eyes on the stamp are rather creepy! 🙂
Leunie from the Netherlands sent me this pretty beach scene – I love going to the beach! Also the stamp is really sweet! 🙂
Agostino from Italy lives 80km from Rome and sent me this amazing card from there! Such a great contrast between new and old!
